Da Capo Project

The Da Capo Project immerses viewers in an endlessly looping 3D virtual space. The camera, representing the viewer, moves only forward or stays fixed, never retreating. White spheres continuously generate, overlap with the environment, and vanish.

The project acts as an auditory field study, capturing urban sound fragments—ferry whistles, subway tremors, street clamor—transforming them into dynamic 3D visuals. Titled Background Sounds: Public Transit Sequence, it reflects the irreversible, repetitive nature of public transit, mirroring life’s unyielding forward motion.

The visuals are not direct sound translations but reveal hidden emotional and experiential layers through algorithmic and intuitive interplay. Clashing mahjong tiles, campus static, demolition roars, and infant cries intertwine, questioning whether life’s traces, crushed by progress, can be reborn digitally. In an era of deconstructed certainties, life’s essence lies in unruly contingencies and vulnerabilities. These fleeting sound-image embryos float in algorithmic chaos, forming a memory ark carrying humanity’s warmth toward an unknown eternity.

In the virtual world, black and white patterns continuously generate and disappear, creating rippling waves that symbolize the endless ferrying on the Sanzu River. The repetitive striking sound is that of a fish vendor killing fish in a bustling market, representing the sounds of nourishment, sustenance, life continuation, and death. In the face of the unalterable natural cycle of life, all that remains is humor and acceptance.

A wedding and a rebirth through death. He transforms death from an inherent occurrence into a conscious act. Can a chosen death still be considered an existence? Death exists between knowledge and ignorance, with no visible summit above and no discernible bottom below. This concept echoes Heidegger's philosophy of "Being-towards-death," where the awareness of death shapes our existence and authenticity.

The sounds of lovers grinding their teeth and breathing at night, conversations in bustling hotpot restaurants and karaoke bars, and people's responses to death. The overlapping sounds of sleep and the restless images of insomnia merge with the throbbing, pulsating rhythm of excitement and appetite, intertwined with narratives of regret and fading away.
